PMB results show marked improvement



ACHIEVEMENTS in the Penilaian Menengah Bawah (PMB) 2008 has shown marked improvement in the percentage rate compared to the previous year's figure. The examination results, which was released by the Department of Examination Ministry of Education yesterday, showed a slight improvement of 3.64 per cent compared to the results in 2007.

Out of the overall PMB candidates of 7,477, 80.75 per cent or 6,038 candidates are qualified and promoted to secondary 4 to pursue 'O' Level studies.

Twentyfive government secondary schools and colleges showed improvement in their candidates' achievements between the percentage rate of 0.12 per cent and 24.88 per cent. From this amount, 10 government schools and colleges achieved the pass rate of 90 per cent and above. Secondary 2 (Express) examination candidates from 19 government schools and colleges achieved 100 per cent success rate.

A total of 4,942 candidates or 64.68 per cent achieved at least "credit" in three subjects, which showed an improvement rate of 0.82 per cent from the previous year.

This figure also include 1,575 candidates or 20.61 per cent who achieved 'credit' in 8 or 9 subjects. The percentage has an increase of 5.22 per cent from 2007.

Meanwhile, 625 candidates or 8.36 per cent from 436 government schools and 189 candidates from private schools successfully achieved excellent grades of grade 1 and 2 in four to nine subjects. Result slips can be obtained respective schools, while private candidates can obtain slips at the Department of Examination, Ministry of Education during working hours.
