Results:Punk crushes Hardy’s dreams … again

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Just like he did at Extreme Rules, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk crushed Jeff Hardy’s dreams of donning the Heavyweight Title. However on this night, it was a mere matter of inches that separated Hardy from gold. (PHOTOS)

Hardy thought he finally achieved what he had been scratching and clawing for when it appeared he had scored the pinfall over Punk. However, after closer inspection by the referee, it was determined Punk’s foot was under the bottom rope and was out of bounds.

Hardy was beyond frustrated.

After the action was restarted, Punk kicked the referee in the back, resulting in a disqualification. In one fell swoop Punk dropped the ref and crushed Hardy's hopes.

With Punk suffering from an apparent eye injury, did he mistakenly kick the ref thinking it was Jeff? Were Punk’s actions accidental or intentional?

After the match, as both Superstars exited the ring, Jeff Hardy went after Punk in complete and utter frustration. Hardy forced Punk into the ring, where he launched into a vicious assault. It took three referees to stop Hardy from his crazed attack. At one point, Hardy broke free and continued his attack on the champion. The melee ended when the crazed Hardy was finally corralled by the referees.

The night was the culmination of months of brooding frustration within Hardy.

The way in which Punk won at The Bash was just another example of the selfish behavior the champion has exhibited ever since Extreme Rules. (Extreme Rules recap)

At Extreme Rules, Jeff Hardy was triumphant over Edge in a career-threatening World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match. But then, in the blink of an eye, it was all over when Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Hardy. (Extreme Rules photos)

Then, on Raw’s special 3-For-All, Punk put his title up against both Hardy & Edge in a Triple Threat Match. Hardy looked to once again close-in on victory over The Rated-R Superstar. However, Punk blocked Hardy’s path to glory, hurling him away from the win to cover Edge himself and retain the title. (Raw photos)

Will Punk’s win at The Bash crush Hardy’s spirits for good? How much longer will he persist in his hunt for gold? Will he ever give up?

Results:Has Miz Cena ‘nuff?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - At The Bash, John Cena finally had his chance to shut up The Miz after his incessant verbal assaults over the last few weeks -- and Cena did so with a fury that the self-proclaimed “chick magnet” won’t soon forget. (PHOTOS)

Ever since being drafted to Raw, The Miz has seemed hell-bent on making a name for himself on Monday nights by destroying that of the former champ. The cocky Superstar even claimed several “victories” against Cena, making up his own fabricated winning streak.

Last Monday on Raw, the attitude adjuster had enough of The Miz’s antics, and declared that they would face each other at The Bash. However, later that night, the abrasive Raw Superstar got the last laugh when he cost Cena his match against Big Show, another one of the former champ’s rivals.

With that loss to The World’s Largest Athlete eating away at him since Monday, Cena entered the ring with a no-nonsense attitude ready to bring the fight to The Miz. Despite finding a way to wear down and control Cena on several occasions throughout the match, the Superstar hailing himself as the “future World Champion” was in dire straits once Cena regained control.

In the end, Cena nailed The Miz with a bone-jarring Attitude Adjustment, but wasn’t satisfied until he locked in the STF for the victory. Has the 12 Rounds Superstar heard the last of the self-proclaimed “chick magnet’s” verbal assaults? Or will this brutal beating only light a fire deeper in the gut of The Miz that will see him torment Cena that much more?

Results:Michelle McCool makes Divas history

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Michelle McCool permanently inked her name into WWE’s history books at The Bash. The sexy, smart and powerful Diva became the first ever to hold the Divas Championship and the Women’s Championship, the latter which she won by defeating Melina Sunday night. (PHOTOS)

With her sly student, Alicia Fox, in her corner, McCool battled the three-time Women’s Champion, Melina, in a viciously physical fight. The intense encounter was dominated by McCool, who targeted Melina’s left leg throughout the match. At one point, the mean-spirited McCool even trapped and battered Melina’s limb between the corner of the ring and the steel stairs, all the while smiling at her tortured opponent. And as Melina retaliated, every offensive move further damaged her own leg.

When Melina finally nearly pinned McCool at The Bash, Fox pulled her mentor’s leg onto the ropes when the official wasn’t watching. Melina countered, knocking the meddling Fox off her feet at ringside, but McCool returned the favor with a kick to Melina’s jaw, which she targeted in their previous match. Then, with another brutal Faithbreaker, McCool, who had become the first-ever Divas Champion back in 2008 at The Bash, made WWE history again when she defeated Melina to become Women’s Champion.

McCool had her eyes on Melina’s prize since she moved to SmackDown in the WWE Draft, but their rivalry became increasingly heated in the last month. Two weeks ago, Melina defeated Fox, but after the match, McCool attacked Melina and said she’d not only beat her at The Bash, but humiliate her. This past week on SmackDown, McCool & Fox met Melina & Gail Kim in tag team action. McCool viciously kicked Melina in the jaw, and followed it up with an unsportsmanlike knee to the face. The vicious beauty just smiled as she tormented Melina, and then defeated Kim with the Faithbreaker, gaining the momentum she needed just two days before she was to make WWE history at The Bash.

Now that McCool finally has the coveted Women’s Championship around her waist, she seems unstoppable. No other Diva has ever worn the Divas Championship and the Women’s Championship. But will Melina retaliate against her Friday night foe? Will any other Divas set their sights on McCool’s gold? Tune in to SmackDown every Friday night at 8/9 CT on MyNetwork TV.

Results:Surviving the Scramble

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In WWE’s fourth-ever Championship Scramble Match, ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer overcame monumental odds at The Bash, defeating Christian, Jack Swagger, Finlay and Mark Henry to win the manic mat war and retain his cherished gold.

First held at Unforgiven 2008, the Championship Scramble Match is a unique contest with five participants and a 20-minute time limit. Two randomly selected competitors start the match with a new challenger entering every three minutes. If a Superstar scores a pinfall or submission, he is declared the unofficial champion until another Superstar scores a pinfall or submission. The last Superstar to earn a pinfall or submission within the allotted time is officially declared the ECW Champion.

This distinct stipulation clearly did not favor the champion. The fact that a competitor can win by pinning any Superstar meant Tommy Dreamer had a near-insurmountable 80 percent chance of losing his title. Still, if anyone’s adept at overcoming adversity, it’s The ECW Original.

Sunday’s chaotic Scramble kicked off with rivals Christian and Jack Swagger. The two ECW standouts slugged it out until Finlay joined the fray, followed by ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer and finally Mark Henry.

The Scramble Match quickly lived up to its name as Swagger became the first man to score a pinfall and was then pinned by Finlay. As the 20-minute mark neared, Dreamer was the reigning ECW Champion after pinning Christian. With the clock ticking, each competitor amped up their offense, struggling desperately to score the final fall. Dreamer, knowing he had the most to lose, took a defensive stance and fought off an endless barrage of pinfall attempts.

When the dust finally settled, Tommy Dreamer was still the ECW Champion.

Although Dreamer was victorious tonight, it does not mean Christian, Swagger, Finlay and Henry are done seeking the gold. With these four double-tough Superstars breathing down his neck, The ECW Original will certainly have his work cut out for him on Tuesday nights, but the champion wouldn’t have it any other way.

Results:The face of a champion

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - It was a match with everything at risk - honor, dignity, heritage, and championship gold -fused together into an intense battle of epic proportions. And when the smoke cleared, Rey Mysterio's mask proved to be Chris Jericho's downfall, as the Master of the 619 reigned supreme, securing his heritage and once more capturing the illustrious Intercontinental Championship. Match Photos

The collective eyes of the WWE Universe stood transfixed on the squared-circle from the opening bell, as the relentless Jericho forced Mysterio to endure an unrelenting physical and verbal attack while viciously trying to rip his mask from his face. Every time the high-octane Master of the 619 flew back into action, the first-ever Undisputed Champion was there to unleash further anguish. But when Jericho finally succeeded in his quest and held the mask high, he was stunned to discover that Mysterio was still wearing a second mask underneath. The proud luchador took full advantage of the distraction, hitting the 619 to snatch the gold from Jericho’s clutches.

Both men entered the ring with a personal stake in the prestigious realm of the Intercontinental Title. Mysterio has publicly associated its greatness with the iconic champions who have worn it in the past, voicing his sincere hope to one day be among the greatest Intercontinental Champions of all time. Chris Jericho leads all WWE Superstars in history, holding the championship a record nine times. Mysterio went into The Bash admitting that the only thing he is ashamed of is that the title is around Jericho’s waist.

The Bash marks the third time that the two premier Superstars have feverously locked horns for the coveted gold in the last two months. After Mysterio successfully defended his title at Judgment Day, Jericho roared back to rip Mysterio’s mask off at Extreme Rules as he was going for the 619. And before anyone could catch their breath, he quickly followed up to pin the stunned Superstar, taking his gold and his dignity in a flash.

Throughout their intense conflict, Jericho has charged his masked adversary with being the “ultimate hypocrite” and “hiding” behind a mask. The outspoken Superstar has insisted over and over again that Mysterio “panders” to the WWE Universe and claimed that he is a coward.

Mysterio has insisted that his iconic mask, as is tradition with luchadors, is his whole identity and immense source of pride to him, both personally and professionally. Week after week, Jericho has continued to exploit the important fact to win matches against Mysterio, threatening to expose Rey's face to the world permanently.

With ultimate risk comes ultimate reward. And after putting everything he cared about on the line at The Bash, Rey Mysterio stared adversity in the face and walked out a true champion.

Results:Uninvited guests

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - WWE Universe, meet your new Unified Tag Team Champions, Edge and Chris Jericho!

Yes, you read that correctly. And while your eyes are probably working just fine, there’s no way anyone, including you, could have seen this coming.

The title match had originally pitted Unified WWE Tag Team Champions Primo & Carlito against The Legacy, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase. However, Edge hasn’t earned the moniker The Ultimate Opportunist for nothing. Having competed in every WWE pay-per-view in the past decade when he's been healthy, Edge wasn’t about to sit quietly on the sidelines for The Bash.

The Ultimate Opportunist barged into the office of SmackDown’s General Manager Theodore Long, happy to remind him of Mr. McMahon’s comments two nights prior, namely that Long was on probation and had better do something interesting at The Bash as if his job depended on it. When Edge strongly suggested that Long arrange for him to be included in the World Heavyweight Title Match, the GM balked and argued that Edge should have thought of his future before divorcing his wife, former Raw GM Vickie Guerrero.

Long’s resistance softened, however, after Mr. McMahon paid him a visit shortly afterward and reinforced the point he’d made just 48 hours before. With Mr. McMahon’s threat weighing on him, Long interrupted the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship match just as it was set to begin. He announced that the bout would instead be a Triple Threat Tag Team Match.

Much to the shock and chagrin of the competitors, Edge approached the ring accompanied by Jericho, who was likely still fuming after dropping the Intercontinental Title to Rey Mysterio earlier in the night. The two seemed prepared to work together much as they did in their victorious Rage in the Cage Match on SmackDown against Mysterio & Jeff Hardy. Once again, the unlikely allies worked in tandem to smother the hopes of their opponents to capture the coveted gold, both the WWE Tag Team Titles and the World Tag Team Titles.

While it’s worth noting that Edge and Jericho combined have tasted tag team gold on more than a dozen occasions, neither has shared a tag team title with the other. With each of these selfish Superstars invested in their own future, however, how much longer they’re able to work together to retain the Unified WWE Tag Team Titles is anybody’s guess. For the moment, however, seeing really is believing.

Results:Viper's pit

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Triple H went into the WWE Championship Three Stages of Hell Match with a distinct advantage over Randy Orton, having competed in – and won – the only two contests of that type before tonight’s Bash. Ultimately, however, courtesy of a win by disqualification and some help from his Legacy, it was Randy Orton who emerged victorious from this hellish competition, the WWE Title still secure around his waist.

Attempting to use Triple H’s recent injury against him, Orton focused his attacks on The Game’s left leg. But knowing that he was only required to win two out of three falls to defeat his nemesis, The King of Kings disqualified himself during the first Stage of Hell, a standard wrestling match, by repeatedly clobbering Orton with a steel chair. The Game may have given up the first match, but in doing so he dealt out some serious damage to The Viper.

The next contest, a Falls Count Anywhere Match, began with Orton laid out, clearly still suffering from the assault. And after further brutalizing his opponent with more chair shots and a Pedigree outside the ring, The Cerebral Assassin wasted no time in pinning The Viper to even up the score at 1-1.

The tiebreaker would be the Third Stage of Hell, making use of one of WWE’s most brutal stipulations, a Stretcher Match. The two sworn enemies attacked one another like rabid animals, attempting to do enough damage that their battered opponent might be placed on a stretcher and wheeled up the ramp. As Orton lay motionless in the stretcher and Triple H pushed his nemesis toward victory, the competitors were joined by Orton’s Legacy, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase. The Legend Killer’s minions proceeded to overcome The Game with a numbers advantage, allowing their mentor time to get away from the gurney.

Before long, however, momentum shifted in The Cerebral Assassin’s favor once again, as he retrieved his signature sledgehammer. But as Triple H systematically dispatched Rhodes & DiBiase, the coiled Viper struck, assaulting The Game with a steel grate and wheeling him across the finish line to retain his WWE Title. The battered and exhausted WWE Champion was afforded little time for celebration, though, as a furious Triple H lashed out, leveling Orton with his sledgehammer in an attempt to show who the true King of Kings is.

Though Orton lost the WWE Championship to Batista weeks before at Extreme Rules, he was able to regain the title soon afterward. Showing that there are no depths to which he will not sink, The Viper and his Legacy attacked the new champion, dealing out such damage that The Animal was forced to vacate the title after having serious surgery on his arm. Capitalizing on the opportunity he had created for himself, Orton outmaneuvered Triple H, John Cena and Big Show in a Fatal Four Way to once again become WWE Champion.

But The Game wasn’t yet ready to be counted out, as he eliminated nine other Superstars in a 10-Man Battle Royal for the No. 1 contendership, and a chance at the man who had for months attempted to take away everything Triple H holds dear. The Cerebral Assassin’s fury wouldn’t wait for The Bash, however, as the two mortal enemies collided the very next week in a Last Man Standing Match that left The Game with an injured left leg. But the brutally hard-fought match failed to determine a clear winner, as both competitors were unable to respond to the count of 10, allowing Orton to hold onto his championship gold.

At The Bash, Triple H had hoped to put an end to his nemesis, personally escorting Randy Orton to hell and winning the WWE Championship in the process. However, by way of his snake-like actions and the assistance of his Legacy, The Viper was able to defeat The Cerebral Assassin in two of their Three Stages of Hell, retaining the WWE Title and beating his enemy at his own game.

Q&A on Spark projects progress

BRUNEI Economic Development Board (BEDB) will begin the construction of a concrete bridge to replace the temporary access road at Sg Liang area on June 19, according to a Sg Liang Authority (SLA) representative.

This was disclosed during a question and answer session on Sungai Liang Industrial Park (Spark) infrastructure projects with the project's key members held at the Sheraton Hotel in the capital yesterday.

The bridge which is scheduled to be completed in November 2009 will replace the road which collapsed during flash floods in the area early this year.

Another issue raised was concerning a request by Sg Liang residents for a T-junction at Sg Liang Industrial Park (Spark) entrance to be replaced with a crossroad. BEDB has been tasked to do the design, but the development is being hampered due to the status of the site, which is still a TOL (Temporarily Owned Land).

Hj Mohd Shafiee Ahmad, a member of the State Legislative Council suggested that representatives from the SLA should meet face-to-face with the residents of the area concerned to acquire clear information about the current progress.

Meanwhile, the Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) announced that they will be setting up a committee, with SLA invited to chair, aimed at exchanging ideas and contribute to a common goal among all stockholders by organising forums as well as question and answer sessions.

Other matters which were also discussed yesterday included giving the local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) equal opportunity to set up shops within the Zone Village a six storey complex to be developed on a 6.7 hectare plot of land at Spark which is expected to be completed in March 2010, and drainage contingency issue in terms of minimising floodings.

There was also discussion on the overall environmental design as well as the issue of power usage and allocation for the substation. (SHS1)

Students conclude EYE workshop

THE first ever Brunei Environment Youth Envoys (EYE) workshop came to a close yesterday, with the participants commenting that the workshop was an eye opener for them and taught them not only how to save the environment but why they should (save the environment).

The three-day workshop was organised in conjunction with the World Environment Day celebrated on June 5 as part of the Brunei EYE programme, which is aimed at developing the younger generation's understanding of environmental preservation by implementing activities that will help them to be directly involved in implementation of the green agenda.

The workshop was part of the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (Jastre), Ministry of Development, initiative to facilitate, motivate and commit the young population to work individually and collectively to promote youth leadership and youth environmental activities.

Attended by 30 youths and 10 teachers from colleges and secondary schools in the country, the workshop focused on current and emerging environmental issues and national youth environmental network, projects and activities. It is also aimed at bridging the gap towards action and understanding of central themes: indicators, systems, innovations and strategies in the formulation and management of environmental programmes and projects.

Ang Wee Kiat, a student from Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, said the experience of participating in the workshop was fun, fascinating and different.

"It is an eye opener, and teaches us the importance of teamwork," he said.

"Preserving the environment is very important. We have only one earth which we call home and yet we are destroying it," he said, adding that the environment does not belong to anyone, yet it belongs to everyone. "Therefore we are all responsible for its well being."

Through the workshop, the participants are now dubbed Brunei's ambassadors for the environment.

Ang said that they will take the experience and what they have learnt from the workshop and spread it to the rest of Brunei.

Rouziyah Hj Abdullah said as future leaders, youth play an important role in shaping Brunei's environment.

"Thus our involvement, contribution and commitment in the realisation and implementation and achievement of sustainable development for sustainable future deserve special attention," she said.

She added that the Brunei EYE programme is basically to enhance knowledge among youth in the country.

Nurul Atiqah Hj Mohd Salleh, from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hjh Masnah secondary school, said they will share the knowledge that they gained from the workshop with all the students in the school so that everybody will be aware of their role in saving the environment.

"The knowledge can be applied in schools, homes and in the community," said Nur Adlina Hj Ya'akub from Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Female Secondary Religious Arabic School (Suamripad).

The 15-year-old student said: "we can apply the knowledge regardless of where we are."

Internet security seminar continues

A SEMINAR to raise awareness among parents on children's online activities and cyber protection organised by the Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam's (AiTi) was held yesterday at Anthony Abell College in Seria.

Among the topics at the seminar covered included basic Internet operations, viewing various popular among children for fun, games and entertainment, potential websites containing inappropriate content for children, customised software for website monitoring and blocking as well as tracking their children's online activity.

According to a report by state broadcasting station, Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) last night, Hjh Ismawati Hj Ismail from AiTi said: "Through this kind of training, parents and guardian can monitor online activities, the websites that they are surfing and so that they can control any immoral activities and eliminate potential threats from the Internet," said Hjh Ismawati Hj Ismail from AiTi,

She added that the seminar was important to train parents to be aware and at the same time be able to give advice to their children on the appropriate way of using the Internet.

Some 30 parents, guardian and teachers attended the seminar which was organised in collaboration with the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, in conjunction with the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

Some 11 secondary schools equipped with computer labs with Internet connections throughout the Sultanate's four districts are being used as a venue for the training sessions whereby more than 300 parents were expected to take part.

Game changer

The returning Triple H roars over his fallen nemesis, Randy Orton.

LAFAYETTE, La. – Though Batista defeated him for the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules, Randy Orton was positive he’d once against hold the title after he and his Legacy brutally assaulted The Animal at the top of the show. However, as The Viper waited for their rematch to be ruled a forfeit, he was confronted by a whole different type of animal: A furious, returning Triple H.

Triple H returned, attacking The Legacy and causing WWE Champion Batista vs. Randy Orton to end in a no contest (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Flanked by his Legacy, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, Randy Orton took to the ring to invoke his rematch clause against WWE Champion Batista. Earlier in the night, the multi-generational Superstars attacked The Animal, injuring him so severely that he was taken from the arena in an ambulance, making his participation in a match unlikely. As The Viper waited for the count of 10 (at which point he would have won the WWE Title by forfeit), an ambulance approached the Cajun Dome. But the Superstar who emerged from the emergency vehicle may have been the last person Orton expected: Triple H.

The Game rushed to the ring with his signature sledgehammer, taking out Rhodes & DiBiase before turning his focus to his long-time nemesis. Triple H then brutally assaulted Orton with chairs, monitors and a thunderous Pedigree onto a waiting steel chair.

Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase def. Unified WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito & Primo in a non-title match (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Perhaps taking a lesson from their mentor, Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase have become intent on winning some gold of their own, specifically the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship. On Raw, they faced off against the present titleholders Carlito & Primo. Though the gold wasn’t on the line in this match, at stake was a future title opportunity if Rhodes & DiBiase could defeat their opponents. The Legacy showed their dominance as DiBiase pinned Primo, ensuring that the two tag teams would meet again in the near future.

Raw General Manager Vickie Guerrero quit and Edge reiterated the he would be divorcing her
(PHOTOS | WATCH)
Referencing Randy Orton’s upcoming rematch, Vickie Guerrero stated that making the WWE fans happy was the last thing on her mind. The Raw General Manager went on to berate the WWE Universe for not showing her sympathy after her loss to Santina Marella in a Hog Pen Match at Extreme Rules. Refusing to be humiliated anymore, Guerrero then quit her job as GM.

After her shocking announcement, she was joined in the ring by her estranged husband, Edge. The Rated-R Superstar reiterated his feelings from the night before, announcing that he plans to divorce Guerrero and adding that the only reason he married her was to use her power. After The Master Manipulator left his soon-to-be ex-wife, Vickie Guerrero broke down screaming in the middle of the ring.

MVP def. Matt Hardy (PHOTOS)
MVP came to the ring declaring that he wants to be considered for the impending WWE Championship match on next week’s first-ever WWE 3-For-All, a special three-hour Raw featuring all three WWE brands with a World Championship Match from each. The Franchise Playa went on to prove he deserves a title match by defeating the nefarious Matt Hardy by pinfall.

John Cena vs. The Miz ended in a no contest (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Ever since coming to Raw in the 2009 WWE Draft, The Miz has been a perpetual annoyance to John Cena (as well as the WWE Universe). The self-proclaimed “chick magnet” has subjected his would-be rival to an endless stream of taunts, threats and insults, while spuriously claiming victories over the former World Heavyweight Champion. But when Cena finally had an opportunity to shut The Miz up, they were interrupted by Big Show, before the match could even begin.

The World’s Largest Athlete, bitter over his loss to Cena at Extreme Rules, attacked, chokeslamming Cena and placing him in the dreaded Cobra Clutch Backbreaker. As the former World Heavyweight Champion struggled to break out of the hold, The Miz struck, clobbering Big Show with a steel chair before doling out the same treatment to Cena.

Santino Marella, Goldust & Festus def. Chavo Guerrero, The Brian Kendrick & Jamie Noble (PHOTOS)
In a tag team match featuring some of WWE’s most colorful Superstars, the team of Santino Marella, Goldust & Festus took on Chavo Guerrero, The Brian Kendrick & Jamie Noble. The combined talent and wrestling know-how of Guerrero, Kendrick & Noble just wasn’t enough to propel them to victory, however, as Marella pinned Noble for the win.

Divas Champion Maryse def. Kelly Kelly
(PHOTOS | WATCH)
Two weeks ago on Raw, Kelly Kelly defeated Maryse in a battle for the Divas Championship, but as the win came by disqualification, she was unable to obtain the title. The sexy, smart and powerful Kelly got another chance though as she took on Maryse once again, with Mickie James sitting at ringside to provide additional commentary. As the fan-favorite Mickie gave her opinion on both competitors, the Divas Champion defeated her opponent, ensuring that the coveted title will continue to belong to her. Following the match, Maryse added insult to injury by slapping Kelly, but was quick to retreat when Mickie entered the ring.

United States Champion Kofi Kingston def. William Regal; Randy Orton invoked his rematch clause after WWE Champion Batista was taken away in an ambulance (PHOTOS)
As William Regal made his way to the ring to take on United States Champion Kofi Kingston in this non-title match, he explained why he should be the one to represent the United States, in a typically offensive and degrading fashion. In spite of his arguments, however, The Jamaican Superstar showed why the title really belongs around his waist by promptly dispatching the arrogant British Brawler.

Prior to Kingston’s match against the devious Regal, the WWE Universe learned that WWE Champion Batista had been taken away from the Cajun Dome in an ambulance due to injuries sustained in The Legacy’s attack on The Animal. This made Orton’s words in the locker room area that much more distressing, as he announced that he was going to be invoking his rematch clause later in the night, and if Batista failed to show, The Viper would win the WWE title by forfeit.

Randy Orton and The Legacy brutally assaulted WWE Champion Batista and took his title
(PHOTOS | WATCH)
Addressing a joyous WWE Universe for the first time since winning the WWE Title, Batista opened Raw by addressing his mentor, Hall of Famer Ric Flair. As The Animal explained that he won his first-ever WWE Championship for ‘Naitch, himself and all the WWE fans who were sick of Randy Orton, he was interrupted by The Viper himself. Without saying a word, Orton and his minions, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, assaulted the WWE Champion, overcoming him with their superior numbers and focusing on The Animal's left arm - even going so far as to lock it into a steel chair. The attack was brutal, necessitating that medical personnel rush to Batista’s side as The Legend Killer made off with his rival’s WWE Title.

Slop her-knocker

NEW ORLEANS - Though Vickie Guerrero may be the “Boss” of Monday Night Raw, she certainly wasn’t the “Boss Hog” after her match with Santina Marella at Extreme Rules.

For weeks, “Santino” and “Santina” Marella have been insulting Guerrero, calling her a pig, oinking at every turn, and even using “Santino’s Casa” as a way to terrorize the General Manager. And when Santino pinned his former flame, Beth Phoenix, to pick up the victory and the choice of stipulation for their “Miss WrestleMania” Rematch, it was only fitting that it be a Hog Pen Match.

But before the match could begin, Vickie entered the arena in a formal gown, and pulled rank, bringing in her own change to the face-off: her nephew, Chavo Guerrero. Now, Santina would have to endure a Handicap Match to regain the coveted Miss WrestleMania crown.

Vickie, however, saw most of the action from the outside, with Chavo doing her bidding. But soon, Guerrero would be pulled into the mess, and endure the "slop" she got herself into. After Santina gracefully poured a bucket of mud over Chavo, the Italian Diva was able to pin the Raw GM, getting all the eggs, bacon and bling.

Vickie’s night wouldn’t just end in a mess within the hog pen. Guerrero’s husband, World Heavyweight Champion Edge, infuriated with Vickie’s choice not to offer any Raw Superstar help for The Rated-R Superstar’s upcoming title match against Jeff Hardy, stormed out of the room, threatening divorce.

Samoan Goes To Sleep

NEW ORLEANS – CM Punk overcame the odds stacked against him at Extreme Rules, defeating Umaga at his own game – a Samoan Strap Match. While Mr. Money in the Bank was strapped to the 350-pound brute Sunday night, he amazingly dragged his opponent to three corners of the ring, hit him with a Go To Sleep, then hit the last ringpost in succession for the victory. (PHOTOS | WATCH: POST-MATCH EXCLUSIVE) Later that night, Punk's night only got better as he went on to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the World Heavyweight Championship. (MORE)

Umaga had been the thorn in the Straightedge Superstar’s side for more than a month. Not only has The Samoan Bulldozer thwarted several of Punk’s attempts to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on SmackDown, he brutally defeated him at Judgment Day.

But their last meeting before Extreme Rules foretold the future, and it certainly looked bright for Punk. Friday on SmackDown, Punk defeated Umaga after hitting him with an astounding Go To Sleep, just as he did at Extreme Rules. It was a feat that some thought was impossible, but not to Mr. Money in the Bank.

Now that Umaga was beat at his own game by Punk, will The Samoan Bulldozer move on to another target, or will he try to torment Mr. Money in Bank again? And now that has Punk earned a giant victory over one of his biggest opponents to date, will anyone be able to stop The Straightedge Superstar?

Submission Accomplished

NEW ORLEANS – When a Submission Match between John Cena and Big Show was announced for Extreme Rules the question on everyone in the WWE Universe’s mind was, “How do you make a 7-foot, 485-pound man submit?” Cena answered that question tonight when he used his unmatched strength and unbreakable spirit to overcome the World’s Largest Athlete and make him tap out in a match that could only be described as a battle of attrition.

Going into tonight’s contest, the odds were certainly not in Cena’s favor. Not only did the former World Champion have to contend with Show’s crippling Cobra Clutch Backbreaker, but he had to deal with the fact that it’s nearly impossible to wrap one’s arms around Big Show’s near 500-pound frame. Cena learned this the hard way at last month’s Judgment Day when he attempted to apply his STF submission to the 7-footer three times, but failed to lock in the hold each time.

With this in mind, Cena knew he needed a different strategy for this Submission Match. The only way he would be able to make the mammoth Superstar tap out would be to utilize a new submission hold and that’s exactly what he did. After suffering through a barrage of sadistic punishment from The World’s Largest Athlete, the wildly popular Superstar fought back, nailing an Attitude Adjustment and a legdrop from the top rope. When the goliath had finally been felled, Cena used the ring ropes to apply a modified STF and make the monster tap, once again doing what no one thought he could do.

This decisive victory was a longtime coming for the star of 12 Rounds. Big Show had been targeting him since April’s Backlash where he ruthlessly chokeslammed Cena through a 7,000-watt searchlight. While Cena was able to beat Show in a singles match at Judgment Day, the enormous Superstar refused to accept defeat and continued to assault his nemesis. Now that Cena has made Show submit, will The World’s Largest Athlete once again seek revenge or can he accept that Cena was the better man? The WWE Universe will find out on the next Monday Night Raw.

Dethroned in disgrace

NEW ORLEANS – At Extreme Rules, as the smoke on the explosive, gut-wrenching No Holds Barred Match for the gold cleared, Chris Jericho stood victorious over Rey Mysterio, winning his record ninth Intercontinental Championship in absolutely vicious fashion after ripping off his adversary’s mask in a moment of complete dishonor. (Match photos)

In a brutal, career-threatening match specifically designed for pain, the resentment between two elite Superstars horrifically manifested itself on an open playing field of raw, volatile emotions that ended in dispare for one of them. Even before the bell, Jericho reaffirmed his scorn, emerging from the merchandise booth, brandishing a Mysterio mask and once again pledging to unmask his opponent and take his title. A high-risk onslaught took over from there, as the high-octane Mysterio and the ruthless Jericho tried to dismantle each other in a sea of near falls, steel chairs and absolute mayhem. And then the unthinkable happened. To the horror of the WWE Universe, Jericho suddenly ripped Mysterio’s mask off as he was going for the 619. And before anyone could catch their breath, he quickly followed up to pin the stunned Superstar, taking his gold and his dignity in one fleeting moment.

Since being drafted to SmackDown, Chris Jericho has collectively held the WWE Universe, his fellow Friday night Superstars and General Manager Theodore Long in absolute contempt, almost instantly clashing with Mysterio, one of SmackDown’s favorite sons.

At Judgment Day, Mysterio heroically reigned supreme over his outspoken adversary with the 619, the very move that his opponent promised the WWE Universe would not happen. Jericho’s defeat only further fueled the fire of his discontent and resentment. When Jericho insisted that Teddy Long give him a rematch with the champion, it was revealed that Mysterio had already asked for the match and it would be No Holds Barred at Extreme Rules.

The Intercontinental Championship itself is a title that both Superstars hold dear. Mysterio has voiced his hope to one day be among the greatest Intercontinental Champions of all-time, while Chris Jericho – who had held the title a record eight times already – seemed to be making his own record an obsessive, personal quest.

Since the beginning, Jericho has insisted his adversary “panders” to WWE Universe and claimed that he is a coward who “hides behind a mask.” Jericho used both of these notions against his prey, disguising himself behind a Mysterio mask in order to launch a sneak attack on the unsuspecting Master of the 619. Mysterio hit back the following week, attacking Jericho and executing the sitting senton onto the dangerous, hard concrete.

Now that Chris Jericho has dethroned and demasked his prey, ripping the coveted gold from Mysterio’s waist and pride from his head, how will Rey Mysterio even be the same?

Dream come true

NEW ORLEANS – After pinning Jack Swagger in a Triple Threat Hardcore ECW Championship Match that also included titleholder Christian, Tommy Dreamer became the reigning ECW Champion. How fitting it was for the ECW Original to accomplish this feat on the one night a year that WWE goes Extreme.

For some people, it’s throwing a Super Bowl-winning touchdown pass on fourth down. For others, it’s sinking a game-winning three-pointer in the seventh game of the NBA finals. For Dreamer, the ultimate dream was acquiring the ECW Title, which he did, appropriately, as time ran out.

At the start of 2009, Dreamer realized the expiration of his contract with the extreme franchise was near. He had until June to win the coveted prize or, by his own orders, he would walk away from the place he loves and has put so much heart – as well as gallons of blood and sweat – into. Disregarding the ECW Original’s effort, former champion Swagger spoiled both of his opportunities at the title, including one-on-one battles against Christian on “WWE Superstars” and ECW on Sci Fi. As a result, interim General Manager Tiffany extended the Hardcore Legend’s contract by one day to allow him a truly fair chance at achieving his goal.

While admitting that Dreamer brought the pressure on himself, Christian has shown nothing but respect for the ECW Original and his fight to prove his worth. “The All-American American,” on the other hand, has been unable to overcome his own frustrations since relinquishing the ECW Title to Christian two months earlier at Backlash.

Since ECW’s inception in 1994, Dreamer has looked forward to the moment that he would earn the reward that goes along with being ECW’s top competitor. He had only accomplished it once before, and it was taken from him that same night back in 2000. Tonight, however, Dreamer goes to bed as ECW Champion. And nobody can take that away.

Steel of fortune

NEW ORLEANS — For the first time in his heavily decorated career, Batista captured the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules, as the cage-enclosed Animal connected with the Batista Bomb to pin and defeat Randy Orton. (PHOTOS)

The only logical, yet harrowing combat setting for The Animal and “The Viper” to settle their months-long rivalry (years, if counting Evolution dissention) was within a steel cage.

Just three weeks prior at Judgment Day, Orton shamelessly preserved his WWE Title reign by causing himself to be disqualified against Batista – a calculated strategy that gave The Animal the victory but not the gold. But within the 15-foot-high entrapment, a disqualification could not earn one mercy; the champion would only be determined by pinfall, submission or escape from the cage.

It was the one night of the year for WWE to go Extreme and Batista followed suit, pillaging his opponent and introducing The Legend Killer – face-first – to the steel walls enshrouding them. With his loyal disciples locked out of the contest, the Legacy leader found himself in serious jeopardy.

Repeatedly, The Viper tried to slither his way out of the reinforced structure, seeking exodus. With the challenger stunned, Orton scaled the steel to exit until his predatory instinct seized control. The champion suddenly zeroed in on his recovering foe, descended the cage and targeted the battle-worn Batista for a punt.

Bestowed with his own primal instinct, Batista averted the strike to cause a crucial shift in momentum at a most critical moment. The defending champion quickly tried to recover and climb the cage but it only left him in a position susceptible for a climactic Batista Bomb. A mere three seconds later, Orton was pinned and his Legacy conquered.

Now a five-time World Champion with his Extreme Rules victory, Batista emphatically avenged the punt delivered by The Legend Killer in late 2008. He also executed as promised to his wounded mentor, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, who was felled by Orton’s skull-rattling boot just days before on Monday Night Raw.

Though his conquest in The Big Easy was anything but, The Animal – with the WWE Championship firmly positioned in his powerful maw – now sits supreme at the pinnacle of his Raw kingdom.

Punk cashes in for Gold

NEW ORLEANS – In a wild turn of events surrounding the coveted World Heavyweight Championship, CM Punk emerged the new champion after cashing in his Money in the Bank contract against Jeff Hardy, who moments earlier, defeated former champion Edge in a brutal Ladder Match. (PHOTOS)

For months, Jeff Hardy had been scratching and clawing to regain gold that he lost earlier this year. He finally had his chance in match that was his forte. But, Hardy knew his opponent was just as at home in the bout. After all, Hardy and Edge have competed in more Ladder Matches than anyone in WWE.

But, Hardy and Edge had never gone one-one-one in a Ladder Match until tonight.

After a hard-fought war, Hardy seized his first World Heavyweight Title. Hardy’s emotions were soaring. And in the same instant, Edge's world came crashing down when he realized he lost his precious gold.

But it wasn’t only Edge who would be overwhelmed with the sickening feeling of losing championship gold.

Before Hardy could fully bask in the glory of being crowned the new World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk crushed Hardy’s dreams by cashing in the contract he has wielded since winning the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. With a double dose of Go to Sleep, Punk easily put away the exhausted Hardy.

The victory was Punk’s second of the night at Extreme Rules. Earlier, he defeated Umaga in a vicious Samoan Strap Match. (Results)

With Punk on a roll, what's next from Edge and Hardy?

How much more adversity can Hardy endure without simply giving up in his quest for gold?

And with Edge and his wife appearing to be heading for splitsville, can The Rated-R Superstar mount a focused attack to regain his gold?

The events at Extreme Rules are a perfect example of how things can change in the blink of an eye in WWE. Don’t miss the next edition of SmackDown at 8/7 CT on MyNetworkTV to find out what will happen next as new World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk comes to Friday nights.
