A TOTAL of 357 Tutong orphans registered with the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans received financial aid from Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) for preparations of the new school term next year.
The contribution, in the form of coupons, worth $50 each, were presented to penghulus, village heads and several orphans at a ceremony, yesterday.
On hand to present the coupons were Pg Suhardi Pg Hj Nordin, manager of BIBD Tutong branch, and Acting Tutong District Officer Hj Muhd Suffian Hj Bungsu.
The donation is the first of its kind, which aimed to assist orphans and to show that the community cares for their development and success and as part of the bank's corporate social responsibility to the community.
Every orphan receives one coupon that can be redeemed in shops recognised by the BIBD in the form of books, stationeries, school uniforms, bags and shoes.
The event was jointly organised by BIBD and the Tutong District Office.
