Eight new ambulances for Belait hospital

THE Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait now has eight new ambulances to provide better medical and health care services to Belait resident after receiving a new ambulance yesterday, a contribution by Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP).

A thanksgiving and blessing ceremony was held at the hospital to mark the handing over of the ambulance yesterday.

On hand to present the mock key was BSP Deputy Managing Director Hj Zainal Abidin Hj Md Ali to Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the Ministry of Health Hj Rosli Mustafa. The mock key was then passed on to Mohmad Hj Hamid, acting chief executive officer of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital.

Hj Zainal Abidin Hj Md Ali said he hoped that the contribution made will be beneficial to the local communities and improve the services offered by the hospital.

"As Suri Seri Begawan Hospital is the main tertiary medical centre of referral for BSP employees and dependents, the contribution is aimed at enhancing the long-established and mutually beneficial cooperation between BSP and the hospital," he said.

In addition, the donation is also part of the company's commitment in supporting community development in Belait, he said.

The handover was a continuation from the cheque presentation of $250,000 for purchasing the new ambulances last year.

The acting CEO of the hospital Mohmad told The Brunei Times that they welcomed such contributions especially from the private sectors.

"This is the first time BSP has made such contribution in the form of vehicles, it's actually a good way for them to carry out their corporate social responsibility," he said.

Hjh Masni Hj Munir, BSP's corporate external affairs advisor said it is hoped the new ambulances will aid in saving lives as every minute is precious especially for emergency purposes.

She added that BSP is also planning to extend their assistance with the establishment of Health Promotion Centre in Berakas. The centre, she added, will be launched later this year, as part of BSP's gift for His Majesty's 62th birthday celebrations. (DKR1)
