Fund raises more than $494,900




A TOTAL $494,951.92 was collected since the Humanitarian Fund for victims of Nargis Myanmar cyclone and earthquakes in China started in May 17 and ended in August 16, 2008.

Yesterday the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday held a meeting for the closing of the fund at the ministry's premise in Jalan Kebangsaan.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Ahmad Hj Jumat, in his capacity as the humanitarian fund's advisor, and Religious Minister Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Hj Mohd Zain Hj Serudin, the co-advisor.

In his speech, Dato Dr Hj Ahmad urged the public to give their full support and contribute according to one's capacity to those who are in need anytime and anywhere.

The concept of "seangkat-angkat hati" (according to one's will) should be embedded in every individual's minds when it comes to donation or any contributions, he said.

The meeting was also attended by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Paduka Hj Jemat Ampal; Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Hj Md Mahdi Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Abdul Rahman and Datin Hjh Adina Othman, Director of Community Development.

The fund was set up to help millions of victims of the cyclone Nargis in Myanmar and earthquake in China's Sichuan province. Throughout the three months, the public was given the opportunity to donate either in monetary value of any amount, collection of non-financial donations or organise charity events for the fund.
