BRUNEI DARUSSALAM ended the Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga) Friendship Games with a bang yesterday when they added six more gold medals to their tally.
Brunei 'A' took home a total of 12 gold medals, nine silver medals and 14 bronze medals for an overall total of 35.
This is a huge improvement compared to their tally of only one gold, 11 silver medals and eight bronze medals in the fifth edition of the Games in Makassar, Indonesia, two years ago.
Five of Brunei's six gold medals won yesterday came from their pencak silat exponents.
In the 'tanding' event Ak Abd Aziz Hafizuddin Pg Bolkiah defeated Mesak Luissano Raweyai of Papua 5-0 in the Men's D category to take the title.
Ak Wafiudin Pg Umar then beat Heri Ishananto of West Papua 5-0 in the Men's G category to take gold.
The third gold came when Nurul Amal Maziah Ibrahim Noor beat Yusryanti Yunus Paduai of South Sulawesi 4-1 in the Women's A category.
In the 'seni beladiri and tanding' event Md Imanuddin Ahmad dominated the men's 'tunggal' category to hand Brunei yet another gold. Second place went to Md Arrsyad Hassan of Brunei 'B' andAulia Ridduan of South Kalimantan came in third.
In the women's 'tunggal' category Siti Mariani Md Adri of Brunei 'A' emerged champion while Nurul Aimi Amalina Zainidi of Brunei 'B' had to settle for second.
Brunei's other gold came from the pool when Siu Kent Chung triumphed in the men's 50-metre freestyle event with a time of 26.23 seconds yesterday. Silver medal went to Yap Jia Hui of Sabah (26.24s) while Lee Jun Yi, also of Sabah, had to settle for bronze medal (26.58s).
The sixth edition of the BIMP-Eaga Friendship Games ended yesterday with Sabah again emerging as overall champions.
The next Games will be held either in Mindanao or Palawan in the Philippines in 2010.
