Kimi ga Yo
The national anthem of Japan is called Kimi ga Yo, "The Emperor's Reign." The words and their translation are:
Kimi ga yo wa, Chiyo ni, Hachiyo ni, Sazare ishi no, Iwao to narite, Koke no musu made. | May the Emperor's reign, Continue for a thousand, Eight thousand generations; Until the pebbles, Grow into boulders, Lush with moss. |
You can listen to the tune here. (midi file)
The words are actually from a waka style poem from Japan's Heian Period, about one thousand years ago. It was an Englishman, J. W. Fenton, that urged Japan to adopt a national anthem, and he wrote the original music for it in 1869. Imperial musicians later revised it into its present form.
The Government first allocated a provision for housing development under the 3rd National Development Plan, 1975-1979. The housing development, which is a continuous programme, is aimed at providing comfortable home for landless Brunei citizens especially government employees who are entitled to have housing loans. Another on-going government shelter project is the Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme (LICS), which also has eight sites in different parts of the country.
Eight sites have been initially chosen for the National Housing Development Program (NHDP). They are the Lambak Kanan, Kampong Rimba, and Mentiri (Pengkalan Sibabau) in the Brunei/Muara District; Kampong Pandan, Sungai Liang and Lorong Tengah in the Belait District; Bukit Beruang in the Tutong District, and Kampong Rataie in the Temburong District. Due to the increasing number of applications and the pure commitment of His Majesty government to provide housing to its citizen, two other sites were added to the list. They are the Meragang and Tanah Jambu, both in the Brunei/Muara District. The site development works and construction of houses are both carried out in stages to facilitate occupation by the inhabitants progressively in a modern community with public amenities and service all within an attractively landscaped environment.
At Brunei/Muara, since 1972 to 1997, more houses have been completed bringing the total of 3,255 houses. This include 2,056 houses in Lambak Kanan, 586 houses in Mentiri, and 613 houses in Kampong Rimba. Furthermore, the remaining houses under construction in Brunei/Muara are estimated about 1,088 houses.
Likewise work are also in progress on the rest of the sites, where is a total of 1,412 houses have been completed. Of these, 831 houses are in Belait District, 504 houses have in Tutong District, and 77 in Temburong District. There are 121 houses under construction where 26 houses in Tutong and 95 houses in Temburong District.
Meanwhile the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation also provides housing for eligible citizens at the four districts of the country under its Housing Scheme. Two new villages in Kampong Ayer have been established namely Kampong Bolkian 'A' and Kampong Bolkiah 'B'. This housing scheme was set up specifically for citizens affected by disasters.

Maturity and leadership are the qualities which Sir Alex Ferguson feels have helped shape Rio Ferdinand into the best defender in Europe.
The England international's outstanding displays alongside Nemanja Vidic at the heart of the defence last season resulted in a club record for the lowest number of goals conceded in a Premier League season - just 22 in 38 games.
Cristiano Ronaldo and his attacking cohorts may have received most of the plaudits for their contribution to United's glorious double, but Sir Alex feels Ferdinand, in particular, deserves special recognition.
"Rio has been the best defender in the country, if not Europe for a couple of years," declared the boss. "His maturity and leadership have been key factors in his and the team's success.
"He is someone that young players learn from and that more experienced players respect.
"I have not seen a better defensive pairing than him and Nemanja for a long time."
Ferdinand skippered the Reds to a 1-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in Durban on Tuesday night having missed United's opening two pre-season games with a back injury.
Boss praises Ferdinand
"Rio has been the best defender in the country, if not Europe for a couple of years. His maturity and leadership have been key factors in his and the team's success. He is someone that young players learn from and that more experienced players respect."

:: Doa dari Hamba-MU ::
Ya Allah, seandainya telah engkau catatkan
Dia milikku, tercipta buatku
Satukanlah hatinya dengan hatiku
Titipkanlah kebahagiaan antara kami
Agar kemesraan itu abadi...
Ya Allah yang Maha Mengasihani
Seiringkanlah kami dalam melayari hidup ini
Ketepian yang sejahtera dan abadi
Maka jodohkanlah kami...
Tetapi, Ya Allah
Seandainya telah Engkau takdirkan
Dia bukan milikku
Bawalah dia jauh dari pandanganku
Luputkanlah dia dari ingatanku
Dan peliharalah aku dari kekecewaan...
Ya Allah yang Maha Mengerti
Berikanlah aku kekuatan
Menolak bayangnya jauh ke dada langit
Hilang bersama senja yang merah
Agar aku sentiasa tenang dan bahagia
Walaupun tanpa dirinya di sisi...
Dan, Ya Allah
Kau gantikanlah yang telah hilang
Meskipun tidak sama dengan dirinya...
Ya Allah yang Tercinta
Pasrahkan aku dengan takdirmu
Sesungguhnya apa yang telah Engkau takdirkan
Adalah yang terbaik untukku...
Sesungguhnya Engkau Maha Mengetahui
Segalanya yang terbaik buat hambaMu ini
Ya Allah cukuplah Engkau sahaja yang menjadi pemeliharaku
Di dunia dan akhirat...
Dengarkanlah Ya Allah
Rintihan dari hambaMu yang amat daif ini
Janganlah engkau biarkan aku sendirian
Menyerahkan persoalan-persoalan hatiku kepadaMu

Tetangga mesti dihormati sekalipun musuh kita. Kasih sayang, perpaduan harus dijaga. Tapi iTulah masalah dunia sekarang ini. Kasih sayang tiada, perpaduan telah punah. Padahal RASULULLAH SAW datang bukan hanya dengan teori, tapi beliau sendiri menunjukkan bagaimana mewujudkan kasih sayang, bagaimana berhubung baik dengan tetangga, berhubungan dengan musuh. Bahkan musuh sakit, RASULULLAH SAW menziarahinya.

No smoking! Get it?
Meragang Beach
Meragang beach has many names - Crocodile beach (legend has it that there are crocodiles there), 7up beach (someone says this is because of the fine bubbles in the water reminiscent of the bubbles in 7up).
We took a walk yesterday. It's dry season so the waves aren't high, the water is clear, the sand is flat and there's minimal debris being washed ashore. By debris I mean logs and normal whatnots from the ocean.
We dipped our toes in the ocean and played in the surf. The water is so clear you can see little fish swimming around in the shallows. There were shells aplenty on the beach for collectors - we ran across an abundance of razor clam shells.
We walked and walked and walked to the end where there's an installation belonging to the Fisheries Department (if I'm not mistaken). We clambered atop the jetty sticking out into the water and were rewarded with this view of the shoreline.
As we walked back to the car we collected a handful of crabs - I'm not sure what species but they play dead when you pick them up.
After all that activity, we sat and watched the sun go down. I love sunsets. We get some of the most stunning sunsets here in Brunei.
Brunei is lucky in that we're situated along the coast of the island of Borneo. Our beaches are beautiful and not commercialised. If you want a lazy Sunday playing in the surf or building sandcastles while the waves crash around you then this is the place to go.

Churchill e o Semitismo
It would be easy to ascribe it to the wickedness of the persecutors, but that does not fit all the facts,").
