Q&A on Spark projects progress

BRUNEI Economic Development Board (BEDB) will begin the construction of a concrete bridge to replace the temporary access road at Sg Liang area on June 19, according to a Sg Liang Authority (SLA) representative.

This was disclosed during a question and answer session on Sungai Liang Industrial Park (Spark) infrastructure projects with the project's key members held at the Sheraton Hotel in the capital yesterday.

The bridge which is scheduled to be completed in November 2009 will replace the road which collapsed during flash floods in the area early this year.

Another issue raised was concerning a request by Sg Liang residents for a T-junction at Sg Liang Industrial Park (Spark) entrance to be replaced with a crossroad. BEDB has been tasked to do the design, but the development is being hampered due to the status of the site, which is still a TOL (Temporarily Owned Land).

Hj Mohd Shafiee Ahmad, a member of the State Legislative Council suggested that representatives from the SLA should meet face-to-face with the residents of the area concerned to acquire clear information about the current progress.

Meanwhile, the Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) announced that they will be setting up a committee, with SLA invited to chair, aimed at exchanging ideas and contribute to a common goal among all stockholders by organising forums as well as question and answer sessions.

Other matters which were also discussed yesterday included giving the local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) equal opportunity to set up shops within the Zone Village a six storey complex to be developed on a 6.7 hectare plot of land at Spark which is expected to be completed in March 2010, and drainage contingency issue in terms of minimising floodings.

There was also discussion on the overall environmental design as well as the issue of power usage and allocation for the substation. (SHS1)
