About 30 members of Anthony Abell College (AAC) Parents-Teachers Association participated in a two-hour Internet Security Awareness Seminar yesterday morning. It was organised by the Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) in collaboration with the Department of Schools.

The seminar conducted by Infomars Training and Technology Solutions Sdn Bhd covered topics ranging from basic introduction on how Internet works; various popular websites among children for fun, games and entertainment; potential websites which may contain inappropriate contents for children; customised software for website monitoring and blocking as well as how to track and monitor children's activities online.

Present to deliver the talk and practical session was Informars Trainer Zunurain bin Haji Zaini.

Designed for parents and guardians with basic computer and Internet skills, the seminar was organised in conjunction with the World Telecommunications and Information Security Day held every May 17.

A similar seminar was carried out at Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, Jalan Muara on May 22 and the following week at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Secondary School in Tutong.

From the past seminars, participation was encouraging and parents expressed satisfaction as the seminar taught them to be more vigilant towards monitoring their children online.

The seminar will be carried out weekly for three months in all four districts at different venues with different group of parents.

AITI is expecting a total of 350 parents to take part in the seminar and to educate them on the opportunities, challenges and protection issues related to the Internet.
